Try best not to complain

We have a hard enough time dressing ourselves in the morning with two arms. But this straight-shooting 25-year-old girl born without arms, who goes by the handle “Tisha UnArmed” and regularly posts YouTube videos about how she goes about her everyday life, reveals in a new video how we’ve been taking for granted the little things – like being able to zip up our flies without assistance and put on a bra without doing “a little jig.” Then again, some things may be simpler without arms; Tisha says it’s easier to turn your shirt around if you accidentally put it on backwards. :)

Humans are so amazing while some don’t deserve to be in existence. Be Grateful you woke up today. Now go put yourself to positive use!

Instragram – Hate it or Embrace it

Recently, there has been a spate of articles declaring how Instagram is debasing real photography and how its only purpose is to feign talent we don’t have.

I joined Instagram exactly an year ago on being introduced to it by Pei Ketron, one of the most talented photographers I know of. I started out hesitantly, clicking and posting whatever caught my eye. And before I knew it, I was completely hooked on to Instagram.

I loved the “ease” as I was always carrying my phone in my pocket when a photo opportunity presented itself and I loved the “challenge” of creating a somewhat interesting image given the limitations of a cellphone camera. The more I used the Instagram app, the more of a ‘convert’ I was (well ok, addicted).

Did Instagram ruin “Traditional” Photography?

I think all Instagram has done is made photography accessible. And saying that Instagram promotes shallow photography is like saying cheap utensils promote unhealthy eating. It is what you do with the equipment or platform is what matters. You could click photos with Instragram that end up in Sports Illustrated or you could click photos that end up, well, here (the rich kids of Instagram).

Personally, Instagram has done more for me in terms of helping me improve my composition and framing skills than shooting with a pro-camera (DSLR) has. With Instagram, all you have is the view-finder (no fancy settings of the SLR) and then probably a couple of effects like tilt-shift and filters (not the infinite processing capability of desktop software!) to produce an awe-inspiring image.

And there are a host of Instagram photographers doing exactly that; I urge you to look at some of the Instagram accounts recommended in this Huffington Post article.

Instagram Photos – Fake or Authentic

Instagrammed photos aren’t any less “authentic” than photos clicked with a digital camera or even a film camera. Even in the very early days, photographers would “dodge” and “burn” photos in the confines of the darkroom. Did that make the final photo any less “authentic”?

Just the fact that it is now (probably) easier to do so using an image processing software, does not make the end result any less (or more) authentic. And if the technology is improving and making it easier for people to click and post-process the photos, the bar for what constitutes a good photo is also rising at the same time. So, while an Instagram filter may make bad photos look passable (yes, Cats and Starbucks coffees, I am looking at you), it certainly cannot result in a masterpiece. That will always take an expert eye.

“Keep calm and Instagram.”

I think some of the angry reactions to Instagram’s success can be attributed to resistance to change or probably the insecurities of some professionals now that “the barrier to entry” in the field of photography has drastically reduced.

Few years ago, the debate was around Digital vs. Film, now it has shifted to Mobile vs. DSLR Cameras and it will definitely be something else tomorrow. Mobile photography is here to stay, the sooner we embrace it and move forward, the better it is.

Ty Warner gives woman $20,000 for her cause after asking her for directions.

This was a very sweet gesture by Ty Warner. I love reading stories like this. Do not be afraid to Muster up the courage when you are suffering from a life threatening disease and get out and try with all your strength & prayers to find some help.

That’s what happened last month when Jennifer Vasilakos guided Ty Warner when he stopped and asked for driving directions in Santa Barbara, Calif.  Jennifer was standing on a street corner handing out flyers to raise money for a stem cell procedure she needs to save her life from kidney failure.

He was true to his word. Vasilakos, an herbalist and Reiki teacher, received a package on July 16 with a $20,000 check and with a handwritten note from Warner. The note read in part, “Someone up there loves you because I was guided to meet you Saturday. I never lose my way, but fate had me lost and ask you for directions. The rest of the story I hope will be a wonderful new life for you.”

American Gladiators

My buddy just sent me a link to this video. This is so classic and brings back so many memories. My buddy is almost a decade younger then me, so it makes me happy to see he’s tuned into life before the Y generation? lol Is that the name they call teens today?

Anyways, my friend knows more classic rocks songs then anyone I know my age or older and the dude is 22 years old. Makes me proud.

American Gladiators used to be one of my favorite shows to watch. This was our reality television and the WWF.

The days when they showed more fitness on television, like Tony Little, Body by Jake, Richard Simons, etc.. Now they have taken physical education out of the school system, feed you horrible food that puts you in a bad mood. Then you go home, play PS3, play Call of Duty to release your aggression and dumbed down by a smart phone or sitting on FaceWaster updating your status.. WOW, how times have changed.

Maibu takes a hit like a man!

Culture of Distraction & Acceleration of Addictiveness

I found this video off Matt Mullenweg‘s website, Matt is co-founder of WordPress. Very educational ,super funny and awfully true. If you have ever noticed. There is a WordPress function called distraction free writing mode! :) Genius

Humans need to slow down.. We all can relate to this. Why is it, when one human see’s another attractive human. The common impulse now is to pull out and check your phone?

D’oh, I think this is the perfect way of missing out on opportunity that may exist….For example, I noticed a cute girl/women and she notices me, brief smile but the cell phone is coming out and texting begins? OMG, I remember when cell phones first came out people were talking to themselves to attract attention or falsely portray an image. Before that, humans were beeping themselves, LMAO. Great invention :)
